The Road to the Sun, A Record of Self-Initiation to Tipheret ( A Work in Progress ).

Fairfax, CA: Privately Printed, 1989. Private Edition. Softcover. Quarto (11 x 8 1/2 inches) Not paginated ( Approx. 184pp.) Blue paper wrappers in ordinary clip binding with b&w printed title label affixed to the upper cover & spine, clear tape reinforcement to spine on outside. Appears to have been printed from a dot matrix printer. A large printed bookplate affixed to the inside front cover states: "Pre-printed from revisions in progress especially for Clive Harper & Albion Lodge." The author evidently prepared a small number of copies thus for distribution to a small circle of friends and fellow O.T.O. members.
Effectively a magical autobiography by Bill Heidrick, a friend of Grady McMurtry and stalwart of the-then revivified O.T.O. who did long service as Grand Treasurer General of the Order and editor of the very informative Thelema Lodge Calendar and author/editor of numerous small publications. The work concentrates on the magical operations and kabbalistic researches by Heidrick undertaken during the period February 1970 to April 1973 when he received the name of his Holy Guardian Angel. A series of Appendicies detail the rituals, meditations, visualisation etc. used and magical philosophies the underpinned the operations: Appendix A: The View From Tipheret; Appendix B: Magical Languages And Correspondences; Appendix C: The Lesser Pentagram Banishing Ritual; Appendix D: Ritual Projection Of The Cube Of Space; Appendix E: Ritual Ascent And Descent Of The Tree Of Life.
This copy is from the library of Clive Harper with his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well-known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. The label can easily be removed without affecting the page, although it would be a shame not to preserve this record of the book's provenance. An unusual, rare and important magical document. Covers lightly worn and discolored, taped spine somewhat yellowed and a little worn at ends, corners lightly bumped, but overall tight, bright and unmarked. Item #65709
