White Stains.

Stockholm: EDDA, 2011. Deluxe Edition. Hardcover. Small Octavo (7 1/2 x 4 3/4 inches). xvi + 110pp. Black cloth with facsimile Crowley signature on upper board in white, and white printed title to spine, black endpapers, ribbon marker, colour illustrations. This is the deluxe issue of the first edition thus. The total printing was limited to 418 hand-numbered copies, with the first 43 copies being presented in a slipcase, and accompanied by an original numbered silkscreen print of the illustration "Ode to Venus Callipyge" by Frederik Söderberg (print size approx. 11 1/4 x 8 3/4 inches). This book is copy no. 7 and the print is marked as 7 / 78, The book is also SIGNED by the publisher, Carl Abrahamsson, the illustrator Fredrik Söderberg and (most unusually) by William Breeze (Frater Superior of the OTO) who wrote the Introduction. The book itself is a new edition of one of Crowley's first, and most famous works. The original 1898 Leonard Smithers edition was limited to 100 copies, and it is commonly believed that most of those were seized and destroyed by British Customs on account of the book's allusions to bestiality, necrophilia, paedophilia and sodomy, and kindred subjects, although no-one has been able to pinpoint exactly when this destruction took place. This new edition contains an important Introduction by William Breeze, and six full-colour reproductions of watercolour paintings by Fredrik Söderberg. From the collection of Clive Harper with his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. The print is enclosed in a buff coloured envelope with card backing and is in Fine condition. The book is also in Fine condition, in a very lightly rubbed near-Fine dust jacket, housed in Fine custom black cloth bound slipcase with white lettering. Item #65789
