London: John M. Watkins, 1956. Limited Edition Facsimile. Hardcover. Quarto. 48 pp + 268 pp. Original black buckram with gilt title, etc. to spine and gilt decorated device to front cover. Illustrations. A (mostly) facsimile reprint, limited to 500 copies, of the First Edition of 1898. The most attractive and solid of the various editions of what is said to be one of the most important, and powerful Grimoires in the western esoteric canon. Translated by MacGregor Mathers, and used by the Golden Dawn, Aleister Crowley is famously said to have attempted "the sacred magic" in a rather offhand - or at least unconventional - way, unleashing dire consequences on all those around. This edition includes the additional Moina Mathers decorated title page, that is absent from many copies of the First Edition and the DeLaurence reprints. A hint of bruising to head of spine, tiny tear to fore-edge margin of frontispiece, otherwise a tight, unmarked near Fine copy in VG+ dust jacket (The dust jacket is evenly darkened and has just a hint of rubbing, a few tiny tears at head of spine, reinforced at the rear with archival acid free tissue-tape, price-clipped. Now protected by a removable mylar sleeve.) This is a reasonably large heavy book and additional shipping may be required depending upon destination. Item #65849
