Peter Warlock, a Memoir of Philip Heseltine; The Life and Letters Series No. 84

London: Jonathan Cape, 1938. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. Octavo. Green cloth with silver titling and device to upper board, silver titling to spine, b&w frontisportrait and illustrations, list of [Warlock's] published works, index. A biographical study of Peter Warlock (Philip Arnold Heseltine, 1894 – 1930), a remarkable British composer and music critic. Typically a quiet, unassuming, individual, when Heseltine took on his Peter Warlock persona (under which he wrote and which reflected his occult interests) he became an outspoken, drunken womaniser. He was acquainted with Aleister Crowley and Victor Neuberg, and died in 1930, apparently having taken his own life. The book was first published in October 1934, and reissued, thus as a volume in "The Life and Letters Series" in 1938 . Cloth a bit rubbed and lightly rubbed & faded at edges, boards very slightly bowed, light bumps to spine ends, corners and edges. page edges and pages toned but clean and unmarked. Overall a tight, generally clean VG copy in Good dust jacket (Dust jacket a bit worn overall, rear panel darkened. Spine darkened, chipped and torn with some internal tissue-tape repair, all edge chafed and creased, price clipped. Now in protective mylar cover.). Item #65918
