Psychic Oddities: Fantastic and Bizarre Events in the Life of a Psychical Researcher.

London: Rider, 1952. First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. 184pp. Original blue cloth lettered in black on spine, b&w illustration. The first edition of this collection of reminiscences by Hereward Carrington (1880-1958), one of the best-known British psychical researchers, and the author of a large number of works on psychical research and spiritualism. In this collection Carrington recounts many of the strange events he had witnessed and the unusual people he had met in the course of his long career. Amongst the many individuals mentioned, he devotes some half-a-dozen pages to Aleister Crowley, with whom he had a friendship. From the collection of Clive Harper with his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. A few light spots of foxing to the page edges, otherwise a sharp, tight, bright VG+ copy in VG+ dust jacket (Dust jacket a little chafed and with a couple of tiny chips at edges and upper spine, rear panel a bit discoloured and rubbed, not clipped).
