London: Golden Hoard Press, 2009. Unique Deluxe Edition. Hardcover. Small quarto. 96pp. Half black leather with green leather boards, gitl titling to upper board and spine, marbled endpapers. 11 Colour Illustrations. Text printed in black and red text as in the original and full colour facsimile images of the original manuscript which was photographed especially for this edition. Volume V of the Sourceworks of Ceremonial Magic series. A UNIQUE COPY. The book was first released in two issues: a leather bound deluxe edition limited to 100 signed, numbered copies, and a regular cloth bound edition. Somehow one of the regular copies ended up in the pile of sets of sheets to be bound in leather, resulting in this unique copy. Loosely inserted is an autograph (hand-written) letter signed, from Stephen Skinner to Clive Harper dated 26.1.10 explaining "I thought you might like this one. It's one of a kind, an ordinary edition that got into the leather binding queue." The copy is signed by both Skinner and Rankine, and rather inexplicably has been hand-numbered "33." There have been many grimoires attributed to St. Cyprian of Antioch due to his reputation as a skilled magician before his conversion to Christianity, but perhaps none so intriguing as the present unique manuscript. Although it is highly unlikely that the text is by the historical St. Cyprian, this does not detract from its extraordinary contents. This is a full reproduction of the text of Wellcome MS2000, together with the translations of the latin texts and commentary by Stephen Skinner and David Rankine, who worked for many years, sometimes with the help of other esoteric scholars, to decipher the coded writing, scripts and symbols found throughout. Clavis Inferni is a unique text which will be of interest to all scholars interested in the magical grimoires, as well as modern magicians who have an interest in working with Metatron or the Demon Princes. The material is largely derived from the Heptameron, so continues a rich magical tradition. From the collection of Clive Harper with his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. Both bookk and letter are bright, clean, and in about Fine condition. Item #65971
