The Bridge of Light, A Message from the Unseen.

London: Gay and Bird, 1899. First Edition. Hardcover. Small octavo. 152pp. Original beige cloth with titling and illustration to upper cover in dark brown. The author's note: "The contents of this book have been almost entirely gathered from original spirit-writings. Parts have been construed, and in some cases condensed, in order to make them suitable for public perusal. A few of the scenes in the story are necessarily purely imaginary...". Previously in the library of the Society of Psychical Research of London with their bookplate on front pastedown, printed shelf sticker on lower spine and blind seal on the title page. More recently from the library of Gerald Yorke (1901-1983) with his posthumous bookplate tipped in at the rear. A great occult scholar and bibliophile, Yorke ("Frater Volo Intellegere") was for a short time Aleister Crowley's chief disciple. In later life Yorke played a crucial role in preserving Crowley's literary legacy as well as in the publication of works on the occult and Eastern religions, editing and commissioning works for a number of British publishers from the 1950s through 1970s. Light coloured cloth darkened at outer edges of covers and spine, spine a bit canted and spine titling no longer visible, spine ends and corners bruised and a little chafed, page edges darkened, earlier bookplate beneath PRS plate, else internally bright and unmarked. Overall a solid VG copy. Unusual book with an interesting provenance. Item #66070
