Warp & Weft: In Search of the I Ching.
Berks UK: Capall Bann Publishing, 1997. First Edition. Softcover. Octavo. 214pp, ii adverts, b&w illustrations. An interesting study of the history and development of the I Ching, including a six page section on Crowley's use of the I Ching. William De Fancourt is a pseudonym of Gary W. Dickinson, London orientalist and occult researcher, artist and stele-maker extraordinaire, who has published on everything from Chinese Court Dress in specialised asiatic journals, to Crowley's Chinese travels and the mysterious figure Lam (respectively) in the occult journals "Fenris Wolf" and the "AMeTh Lodge Journal" . The publisher says of "Warp & Weft" - "The majority of books available offer a translation of the I-Ching, often supplemented with a discussion on interpreting the answers received in divination. The level of accuracy varies, at best the historical background is partial, at worst, misleading. The Chinese have a saying 'if you want to understand a man, first understand his past'. 'Warp and Weft' traces the origins of the I-Ching and the ways in which the past has shaped our understanding of it, making the subject more accessible and understandable widening the readers' perception of this powerful and ancient divination tool." Very light rubbing to covers, corners lightly bruised, otherwise a tight, clean VG+ copy of a very uncommon title. Item #66214
