London: Oxford University Press, 1963. Second Edition, Third Impression. Hardcover. Large octavo. xxviii + 316pp. Series green cloth with gilt titling to spine, gilt device and blind rules on upper board; color frontis, b&w illustrations, index. A biography of Jetsun Milarepa (Rje-btsun Mi-la ras-pa - c. 1052—1135), student of Marpa (Marpa the Translator) and one of the most famous Tibetan yogis and poets, renowned for his literary works: the "Songs of Milarepas" and his role in the history of the Bka'-brgyud school of Tibetan Buddhism. The translation is by Kazi Dawa Samdup (Kazi zla-ba bsam-'grub, 1868-1922) who also supplied translations for Alexandra David-Neel and Sir John Woodroffe. Very light signs of shelf-wear, page edges a bit darkened, owner's name on front blank - else a lovely unmarked VG+ copy in VG dust jacket (Dust jacket is about an eighth of an inch shorter than the book: presumably most or all were thus. A bit darkened - more so at spine and folds. Light chafing, chipping and tiny tears to edges and folds, not clipped. Now in protective mylar sleeve.). Item #66220
