Large thick octavo. 544pp. Blue cloth decorated on spine and upper board in gilt and silver, gilt lettering to upper board and spine, rear cover decorated and lettered in blind, patterned endpapers, red page edges. Colour frontispiece and one colour plate with tissue guards. Various b&w plates (including one fold-out) and illustrations in-text. An early edition of this "connected and complete account of the persecutions and martyrdoms of Free Masons and Knights Templars." The book was first published in 1880 - we believe this circa 1885 edition to be the second edition, possibly with some additional plates. A bit of rubbing and light bumps to cloth, light chafing at edges and extremities, spine ends and corners lightly bruised and rubbed, pages toned, owner's name and notation on first blank leaf - otherwise no markings of any kind. Still a solid, bright VG+ copy. Scarce. Item #66268
