The Necronomicon.

New York: Schlangekraft Inc. / Barnes Graphics, 1981. Third Edition, Limited. Hardcover. Quarto. lviii + 222pp. Original black grained (faux?) leather, ornately lettered & decorated with silver title on spine & title and decorations on front cover. All edges silver. Black and white diagrams. COPY NUMBER SEVEN WITH A SUPERB HAND-DRAWN COLOUR PRESENTATION DESIGN by Larry K. Barnes, and SIGNED by him and the two other collaborators, "Simon" and Jim Wasserman. The Third Edition (revised) of the Simon "Necronomicon," limited to 3,333 hand numbered copies, this being copy number 7. The three individuals responsible for the work were: 'Simon' who "provided the manuscript " (but is now known to be its author, generally identified as Peter Levenda); Lawrence K. Barnes, who illustrated and acted as publisher, and James Wasserman, who produced and designed the book . All three are mentioned at some length in the Preface. This copy is unique in that it has a full color original cartoon style illustration by L. K. Barnes on the limitation page; which illustration is inscribed to "Alvin Geis" and is signed beneath by all three contributors and dated 23rd Nov. 1981. More recently from the collection of Clive Harper with his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. Spine ends and corners are bruised and a little chafed. Short closed tears in the leather hinges at the top and bottom but the boards are still firmly attached. The presentation page (with illustration) is quite thumbed, presumably from being passed around to a number of people whose hands weren't particularly clean! Pages otherwise lightly age toned but clean and unmarked. Overall a solid VG copy (no dust jacket issued with this volume). Obviously unique. Item #66471
