Arbatel of Magick. Tome One. Isagoge.

Gillette, New Jersey: Heptangle Books, 1979. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. Octavo. xxii + 70pp. Original navy cloth with paper spine label. Rubricated title page, blue decorative borders throughout. Printed letterpress. Although no print run was stated, it was undoubtedly quite small. A curious work on "angelic magic." Originally published in Latin at Basle in 1575 as "Arbatel de Magia Veterum," it was translated into English by Robert Turner and published in London in 1655. This edition reproduces Turner's translation , along with a new forward. Published by Daniel Driscoll (1944 - 1990) who under his Heptangle imprint was one of the pioneers of late twentieth century private press grimoire production. The "Arbatel" is of the scarcer of the Heptangle publications. Page edges a bit darkened, small lightly toned strip on each of the endpapers, offsetting from the pages that have heavily decorated margins onto the two adjacent blanks, previous owner's name (with eleven-fold cross and magical grades) on half-title page, cloth of spine and spine-label a little darkened. Still a tight clean VG+ copy in G+ dust jacket. (Dust jacket spine is very darkened, lesser darkening round the margins and folds, a few small chips around the edges and a couple of pin-head size holes. Now protected by a removable mylar sleeve.) Uncommon in this edition. Item #66509
