London & Benares: Theosophical Publishing Society, 1905. First Edition. Hardcover. Large octavo. 84pp. Original green cloth decorated & lettered in gilt on front board and spine. Color frontispiece. Color (mostly) & b/w plates. Some in-text illustrations. The first edition of this well-known work on the forces that are said to comprise the human aura and provide the vessel for clairvoyance, telepathy, etc. By Theosophical stalwarts Charles W. Leadbeater (1847 – 1934) and Annie Besant (1847 – 1933). Part of the text was originally published in the Theosophical journal "Lucifer" but the work was extensively revised and enlarged for this edition, which also includes a large number of colour illustrations prepared by artists from the observations of Besant and Leadbeater. Cloth a bit rubbed overall, all edges and extremities are lightly chafed with a few light bumps, corners bruised and chafed. Page edges darkened and with a few spots, NYC Weiser bookshop label on front pastedown and owner's name in pen (dated 1920) on front endpaper. Paper a bit toned and a dozen or so pages have minor pencil marks (could be erased with some patience). Overall a tight, clean VG copy (no dust jacket). Item #66537
