A Magick Life. A Biography of Aleister Crowley.

London: Hodder and Stoughton, 2000. First Edition. Hardcover. Large octavo. xvi + 508pp. Black cloth with gilt title, etc. to spine, b&w photos, index. SIGNED by way of a printed limitation statement with holograph signature - apparently extracted from one of the author's poetry volumes, which has been trimmed down and tipped onto the front free endpaper. The author, Martin Booth (1944 – 2004), was a publisher, poet and novelist, who was short-listed for the 1998 Booker Prize. He also edited the first mainstream modern selection of Aleister Crowley's poetry. Although his biography of Crowley is not one of the better known studies, it is certainly not without merit. Two news-clippings - one a review of the book, and the other an obituary of Booth - loosely inserted. From the collection of Clive Harper with his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. A bright unmarked near Fine copy in very lightly rubbed near Fine dust jacket which is now in removable mylar protector. Item #66592
