The Ghouls, Croquis de Croque-Mitaine.

Santa Cruz, CA / New York, NY: The Magick Theatre [ Thelema Lodge, O.T.O. ], 1988. Facsimile reprint. Softcover. Octavo. ( 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches) Stapled booklet. 20pp. Beige wrappers lettered in black on upper cover and illustrated in black on rear cover, illustrated title page. A facsimile reprint of this work originally published in "The Equinox Vol. I, No. 7". Crowley was extremely proud of the work: a contemporary reviewer in "The Poetry Review" wrote that this piece “is possibly the most ghastly death-dance in English literature. If Oscar Wilde had written it everyone would know it. It is the very pith and marrow of terror." This is apparently the work's first separate publication. We know of two issues: one with beige and one with brown wrappers. The order of publication is not known. From the library of Clive Harper with his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well-known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. Simple "staple and xerox" production values, very light wear and fading to covers, else a tight, clean near Fine copy. Item #66613
