Item #66617 The Gods of the Mountain. Lord DUNSANY, Aleister Crowley: related works.

The Gods of the Mountain.

NP [ Santa Cruz, CA / New York, NY ]: NP [ The Magick Theatre, Thelema Lodge, O.T.O. ], ND [ circa 1991 ]. First Edition Thus. Softcover. Octavo. ( 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches) Stapled booklet. 40pp. Gray thin card wrappers illustrated and lettered in black on upper cover. A play by the Irish writer Lord Dunsany. Crowley had written to Dunsany in 1909 and solicited a poem, "The Sphinx at Giza," which he published in "The Equinox" Vol. I, No. 2. Not long after Dunsany published the play, "The Gods of the Mountain", in which some have detected the influence of Crowley's own work. The play was said to have been a favourite of Crowley's, and it was performed by the Thelemic theatre group, "The Magick Theater" in California in August 1991. Although not marked as such, this booklet was published by "The Magick Theater", almost certainly around the time of the performance. This copy is from the library of Clive Harper with his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well-known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. Simple "staple and xerox" production values, very light wear and fading to covers, else a tight, clean near Fine copy. Item #66617
