Item #66689 Atlantis. Liber LI, The Lost Continent. Aleister CROWLEY.

Atlantis. Liber LI, The Lost Continent.

London: Morton Press, ND [ 1974 ]. First UK Edition - Limited. Softcover. Small octavo. iv + 70pp + ii advert. White wrappers illustrated and lettered in black. Edition limited to 100 hand numbered copies, this being copy No. 4. This rare Morton Press edition is actually the first UK publication of Crowley's "Atlantis" - indeed the work's first publication anywhere was only four years earlier by the Kenneth Anger and the Dove Press in Canada. Curiously the text of this edition is actually a facsimile reprint of the Dove Press edition, although whether this was done with their knowledge or not is not known to us. "Atlantis" was described by Kenneth Anger as a "sexual-magical treasure" whilst in the "Blue Equinox" Crowley described it as "An account of the continent of Atlantis: the manners and customs, magical rites and opinions of its people, together with a true account of the catastrophe, so called, which ended in its disappearance." In other writings he allowed that some parts of the work contained more than a hint of satire, whilst others were thinly-veiled metaphor. From the collection of Clive Harper with his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. Covers lightly rubbed and darkened, Atlantis Bookshop label inside front cover. Far scarcer than the Dove Press edition. A tight, clean copy in VG+ condition. Item #66689
