Much More Than Magick, to Commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Passing of Aleister Crowley [ Proof Copy ].

Cambridge, UK: Privately Printed, 2007. First Edition Proof Copy. Softcover booklet. 8 1/4 x 5 3/4 inch. (12pp) Stapled in thin peach-coloured card covers with printed paper facsimile of astrological chart tipped onto upper cover, tipped in sepia photographs of both a young and old Crowley, b&w chessboard illustration. Loosely inserted is a printed card reading "Much More Than Magick, to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the passing of Aleister Crowley. Conceived by P. Warnes. Compiled by N. Culpeper and P. Warnes." An early trial copy of this memorial to Crowley on the 60th anniversary of his death, produced by Nicholas Bishop-Culpeper & P. Warnes. The printed limitation statement reads "Limited to 33 numbered copies, 1 - 9 having translucent endpapers. This copy is No. ______ " This proof copy not numbered, but it has "1st Proof" in Bishop-Culpeper's handwriting neatly at the head of the first blank. The booklet comprises a tipped in photo of a young Crowley, the limitation page, quotes from Crowley about a particular climb he undertook, a comment on curries, the recipe for a rather deadly-sounding cocktail, a diagram and comment on a particularly interesting chess endgame played by Crowley, a note by Crowley at the death of his mother, and a passage from his poem "Rose of the World." Although this copy is a "proof" there appear few differences in production between it and the "published copies", apart from a slight difference in the tone of the photos of Crowley. From the library of the publisher, English bibliophile and Aleister Crowley scholar Nicholas Bishop-Culpeper (1942-2011), with his book label tipped in at the rear. Fine condition. Unusual.
