"Ancient Egypt" is the best known - and arguably most important - work of Gerald Massey (1828 - 1907), self-taught Egyptologist, prolific poet and author, "Ancient Egypt, the Light of the World" was first published shortly before his death in 1907. Massey was an autodidact who undertook his study at the British Museum, where he taught himself to read the hieroglyphs. He was particularly interested in the symbolism, myth and religion of ancient Egypt, which he saw reflected in later civilizations. In these volumes he looked particularly at Egyptian religion, much of which he thought had found its way into the Judeo-Christian religious systems. His work was largely rejected or ignored by the mainstream Egyptologists and historians of religion, but embraced by many occultists and Masons, including Albert Churchward, with whom Massey collaborated, and Mme. Blavatsky, who cited Massey on numerous occasions in "The Secret Doctrine." Kenneth Grant also draws heavily on Massey, and cites him frequently in the first of the Typhonian trilogies. An unused set, thus "as new", about Fine condition. (no dust jackets as issued). Heavy two volume set will require additional shipping to most destinations. Item #66835
