The first American edition of this popular study of "the Devil and his agents, whether real or imaginary, acting in the world of man." Includes a chapter on the "The Burning of the Witches." Despite its somewhat breathless tones, the author, Eric Maple (1916-1994) was a serious scholar of folk-lore, with a real knowledge of British witchcraft. Cloth lightly rubbed and unevenly faded, corners and spine ends lightly bumped and rubbed, paper toned but clean and unmarked. A tight, clean about VG copy. (No dust jacket). Item #66917
