Item #66986 The European Witch-Craze of the 16th and 17th Centuries. H. R. TREVOR-ROPER.

The European Witch-Craze of the 16th and 17th Centuries.

New York etc: Harper Torchbooks, 1968. Reprint. Softcover. Octavo. Trade paperback. 246pp, Endnotes, index. Baphomet illustration to upper cover. The author explores the idea of the witch-craze as a form of social intolerance with the "witch" as the scapegoat. This study was first published in a series of essays entitled "Religion, the Reformation and Social Change." Called by the publisher: "A masterly study of early modern Europe in the grip of a collective psychosis." A well used copy with some ordinary shelf wear, page edges darkened and thumbed, a bit of light underlining in pen, hole punch used on upper corner of first dozen or so pages, paper toned. Still a tight, serviceable copy for the reader on a budget. Priced accordingly. Item #66986
