Quakertown, PA: Rosicrucian Foundation, ND [ 1935 ]. First Edition. Softcover. Octavo. 128pp. Original pale blue textured wrappers lettered and illustrated in black and bordered in red, b&w photo of Crowley and other illustrations. The text of the front cover reads: "An Exposé of The Imperator of A.M.O.R.C., his Pilfering Charlatanism and His Connections with Aleister Crowley, Notorious Black Magician and O.T.O. Ordo Templi Orientis, Despised Black Cult" The book is thus a strange diatribe, attacking H. Spencer Lewis, A.M.O.R.C. and Aleister Crowley, who had at one time claimed that he was the rightful heir to A.M.O.R.C. as, like the O.T.O., it was supposedly constituted under a charter by Theodur Reuss. In a letter to Lewis, Crowley wrote about a copy of this work: "Some one has sent me a pamphlet in Blue wrapper 128 pp "Not under the Rosy Cross" by Swinburne Clymer, an ignorant swindler who came to me in N.Y. in 1914-15 e.v. for support. I kicked him out." From the collection of Clive Harper with his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. Spine and outer margins of covers slightly browned, very light rubbing to edges, pages lightly toned, two words underlined on one page (it is possible that this is a typesetting flaw rather than an underline) - else a tight, bright unmarked VG + copy. Very scarce. Item #67100
