Item #67170 Clouds without Water. Aleister CROWLEY, "Rev. C. Verey"

Clouds without Water.

Des Plaines, IL: Yogi Publication Society, ND [ ca. 1990s ]. Reprint. Softcover. Small octavo. xxii+ 142 pp. Textured red flexible wrappers with gilt titling to upper cover. A modern softcover reprint of a book of poetry that Crowley originally published semi-clandestinely in 1909 with Renouard of Paris (who had earlier published Crowley's homo-erotic parody, the 'Bagh-I-Muattar'). The poetry has some erotic undertones - which presumably explains why Crowley playfully published it under the name of a fictitious Priest "The Rev. C. Verey" and had the words "Privately Printed for Circulation Amongst Ministers of Religion" printed on the title page of the original edition. The "Yogi Publication Society" reprints are undated, but those of "Clouds without Water" with red covers are known to postdate those with white covers. This copy was bought by Clive Harper in 1995 and thus was probably published in the early 1990s. From the collection of Clive Harper with his discrete book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well-known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. This particular example was bought new by Clive Harper in 1995. Just a hint of shelf wear else a tight, clean near Fine copy. Item #67170
