Thame: First Impressions, 1993-1995. Proof Copies [ First Edition ]. Softcovers. Three large volumes. Folios (12 3/4 x 9 3/4 inches). Un-paginated (approx. 900 pp), b/w illustrations. Plain cream wrappers with small colour illustrated title/limitation label affixed to the right upper corners of the front wrapper of each volume. B&w title label to spine. B&w illustrations throughout. Each volume SIGNED on the title-page by the editor/publisher A. R. (Tony) Naylor. The title/limitation labels indicate that only 5 such sets were made, this being set No.2. It was presented to Clive Harper, who compiled the "Notes Towards a Bibliography of Austin Osman Spare" in Vol. I. A pencil note in Harper's hand on the inside front cover of Vol. II reads "Gift from Tony Naylor. 16 Dec. 95. NB only 4 sets distributed, despite label. [Signed with his initials]." Thus this is the first incarnation of this three volume ground-breaking collection of Spare's art and writings, heavily illustrated and with additional material by Frank Letchford, Clive Harper, William Wallace, others. Vol. I has a tipped in colour reproduction of a self-portrait by Spare, which was not used in the published version. Obviously a splendid association set, from the collection of Clive Harper with his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear of Vol. I. Harper is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. A hint of shelfwear, a bit of light chafed to extremities- otherwise near Fine condition. Large, heavy set - shipping at cost to all destinations. Item #67282
