Bright red cloth with black decorative borders, titling and astrological chart on upper board, black titling and decorations to spine. List of abbreviations, appendices, b&w portrait of Broughton, b&w illustrations. The author, astrologer L. D. Broughton, (Luke Dennis Broughton), (1828-1899) was best known as president of the Astrological Society of America, for his monthly magazine "Planet Reader and Astrological Journal", and for predicting his own death with considerable accuracy. In this volume Broughton gives the reader a complete and comprehensive practical guide to the science of Astrology as it was known at the time. Light overall shelf wear to boards, some light bruising and chafing to corners and spine ends, page edges darkened, endpapers unevenly browned, endpapers splitting at inner hinges - offsetting from old reinforcing cello tape at front inner hinge (tape gone), bleeding through to title-page. Tears to inner margins of title-page.. Bookplate on pastedown, a few light pencil marks in margins. A newspaper obituary for Broughton from 1899 is pasted onto the blank facing the title-page. Boards still quite firmly attached, and still a solid, G+ copy. (no dust jacket). Item #67328
