Bristol: Privately printed, 1994. Subscriber's edition. Softcover. Quarto. 12pp text printed on rectos only, &17 full-sized b&w plates of cathedral plans. A4 sized blue clip bound pink wrappers, printed in black, b&w diagrams. Text and diagrams computer generated. The diagrams include "the Kabbalist Ladder", the Temple at Luxor, and plans of various cathedrals and churches. The author's intention was to merge the important passages of two works - "Sepher Yetzirah" and "The 32 Paths of Wisdom" "in a relatively simple and meaningful way so as to aid the student who wishes to investigate matters further." There follow 17 floor-plans of sacred spaces - the sacred geometry of which the author clearly felt had kabbalistic resonances, although they are not obviously tied to the texts. The author, Alan Maxwell Bain (1933-2006), along with Glyn Davies, Tony Potter and others, was one of a small group who met in Soho, London, during the 1950s to explore the Kabbalah, and who in turn went on to teach and write about it themselves. The volume is a private edition - printed and sold by the author on request. This is copy no. 21 of a presumably small number printed thus. Very light rubbing to covers else a tight, clean VG+ copy.
