Aleister Crowley loved to make fun of him in Reviews in his Equinox series, although in a candid moment he wrote 'If it had not been for Waite I doubt if, humanly speaking, I should ever have got in touch with the Great Order.' Writing about Waite's studies of the Kabalah, Golden Dawn scholar R. A. Gilbert observed: 'No other work in English approaches Waite's study in sanity, accuracy or competence, despite the errors due to his reliance on unsatisfactory translations. His insight into Kabbalism is praised by Gershom Scholem, the greatest living authority on the subject ... " Just a hint of light shelf wear and bruising to points, a few faint spots to upper board, pages lightly toned, old NYC Weiser book shop label on front pastedown, a few creased page corners. Still a tight, bright VG+ copy (no dust jacket). Item #67448
