King's Beach, CA: Thelema Publications, 1974. Second edition - Numbered Copy. Hardcover. Small square octavo. (6 7/8 x 5 7/8 inches). (20)pp printed on the rectos only except for pp. (4) and (6). Royal blue cloth with silver stamped title, etc. to spine and front cover. Printed in blue with deckled page edges. The numbered printing, limited to 100 numbered copies (this being number 52) of the 1974 Thelema publications edition. "Liber XXI" was originally published by Crowley in 1939 in an edition of 100 copies, of which arguably less than a quarter were actually distributed. It was first reissued in an unspecified - but certainly tiny printing - by Helen Parsons Smith (1910 - 2003), ex-wife of Jack Parsons, widow of W. T. Smith, and long time member of Agape Lodge of the O.T.O., under her Thelema publications imprint in 1973. In 1974 she brought out this new edition. In 1974 she brought out a new reset edition which included a reproduction of a previously unpublished drawing that Crowley had done on a blank in one of the first editions. There were two main issues of this new edition, one of - of which this copy is an example - had silver titling on the front board, and inside a limitation notice stating that it was limited to 100 numbered copies. The other issue had gold titling and was un-numbered and without the limitation notice. Precedence of issue is not known, although it seems likely that the numbered issues preceded the unnumbered issue. Helen also had at least one copy privately bound in quarter-leather as a deluxe issue. Loosely inserted is a single sheet of buff-coloured 6 1/2 x 5 inch paper, with the diagram "A few indications for the student of the line to be adopted in his elucidation of Liber AL," printed on the recto - the verso is blank (the diagram was originally published as the final page - p. 138 - of "The Equinox of the Gods"). This sheet was included in some, but by no means all, the copies that Helen sold. This copy from the collection of Clive Harper with his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. A tight, clean near Fine copy. No dustjacket - as issued. Item #67710
