San Francisco, CA: Weiser Books, 2007. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. Thick octavo. xxxviii + (ii) +1134pp. + (ii - adverts). Glossy red papered boards with yellow printed cover design and and spine titling. Illustrations. This copy inscribed on the front free endpaper to Clive Harper by the editor Hymenaeus Beta: "For Bro. Clive, / with love / 93 93/93 / [eleven-fold cross] Hymenaeus Beta." The 2007 edition of Regardie's selection of Crowley's most important writings - 'all the magical writings' - from the monumental "Equinox" series. The book was first published in 1974 at a time when Crowley's magical writings were unavailable to most : the ten volume "Equinox" set had only been republished by Weiser for the first time two years earlier, and was difficult to find and beyond the budget of most. "Gems" was greatly in demand, and new edition and reprints were released throughout the 1980s and 1990s. This 2007 edition comprises the text plus Regardie's original Preface, updated with footnotes and corrections by Hymenaeus Beta. From the collection of Clive Harper with his discrete book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. A hint of rubbing to covers, otherwise a tight, bright, near-Fine copy (issued without dust jacket). Please note the rubbing is not as bad as the photograph might suggest - which is distorted by light reflecting on the glossy covers. Heavy book - additional shipping may apply. Item #67738
