The Eye in the Triangle. An Interpretation of Aleister Crowley.

St. Paul, MN: Llewellyn Publications, 1970. First edition. Hardcover. Large octavo. x + 518 pp. Original black cloth, gilt title, etc. to spine, color frontis, b&w illustrations. The first edition of this important biographical study of Crowley by his one-time secretary and student Israel Regardie (1907 – 1985). This copy INSCRIBED & SIGNED by Regardie to Thomas Head on the front blank: "For Thomas Head, / with sincerest compliments. / Israel Regardie", and with Head's bookplate on front pastedown. Dr. Thomas Head (d. 1999), was a personal friend of Israel Regardie, an avid book collector who was well known for his encyclopedic knowledge - theoretical and practical - of different occult traditions. He was a skilled linguist, and an expert on the Enochian language, and is said to have studied with W. E. Butler and Dion Fortune, amongst others. The book is more recently from the collection of Clive Harper with his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. Corners lightly bruised. small ink spot on front free-endpaper (below inscription), hint of darkening to edges of text block. Still a tight, clean VG+ copy in VG+ dust jacket (dust jacket lightly rubbed, more-so at folds, and with a few small creases and tears around the edges. Now protected by a removable mylar sleeve.) An important association copy. Item #67740
