Item #67834 Horned Capon. Adrian - SIGNED LAWLOR.

Horned Capon.

Melbourne, Australia: Oberon, 1949. First Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. 520pp. Deep red cloth gilt-lettered on spine. One of 350 hand-numbered copies ("for subscribers only"). This copy signed by the author on the limitation page. An unusual novel by Australian painter, writer and critic, Adrian Lawlor (1889-1969). In his book "Adrian Lawlor: A Portrait," Gavin Fry suggested that the writings of Aleister Crowley, to which Lawlor had been introduced by P. R. Stephensen, were one of the influences in "Horned Capon," although these do not seem readily apparent to this cataloguer. In another curious Crowley connection, "Horned Capon" was distributed by Norman Robb, the bookseller friend of Crowley's Australian disciple Frank Bennett, who assembled a major collection of Crowleyana, and was responsible for the preservation of a large amount of Crowley's papers, including a number of then-unique O.T.O. rituals. Light shelf wear, edges and extremities very lightly chafed, page-edges age-toned, faint marginal browning to pages & endpapers, bookshop sticker, else a clean VG+ copy (no dust jacket). Item #67834
