The complete writings of Madame Helena Petrovna Blavatsky (1831-91), co-founder of The Theosophical Society and author of the foundation texts of that society, including the massive "Secret Doctrine" and "Isis Unveiled", complied by Boris de Zirkoff and edited by Dara Eklund. In her introduction, Katinka Hesselink says of the collection: "Boris de Zirkoff started collecting his aunt's articles and letters (he was related to Blavatsky) quite early in life and started out making a series of Collected Works, but that material was lost. Then he teamed up with Quest Publications, a publishing house of the Theosophical Society Adyar. They ended up doing the whole series which they called The Blavatsky Collected Writings. The result is fourteen volumes of articles, notes and Blavatsky's diaries. Each volume has biographical details on the main people mentioned as well as a historical survey of the period and an index. The series includes a reprint of "The Secret Doctrine" and "Isis Unveiled" - both with the excellent footnotes we've come to expect from Boris de Zirkoff. Perhaps most interesting in the series is the collection of fictionalized stories of Blavatsky's travels in India. These were originally published in Russian, and have been translated especially for the Collected Writings series. The result is The Caves and Jungles of Hindostan." All the volumes except Vol. XIV are in VG+ to fine condition, and appear largely unread, with just a little modest shelf-wear, occasional light bruising to corners and spine ends, and a little darkening to the page edges. There is a crease to the spine of Vol. XIV which also has a small, neat owner's address label on the front free endpaper, and a little bruising to the edges of the boards. The dust jacket of Vol. XIV has some significant chips, and a few tears, and is VG only. The dust jackets of all the other volumes are VG+ or better condition, with just the odd short tear to the edges, a little shelf-wear and some toning (being white they all suffer a little discoloration). All now protected by removable mylar sleeves. A nice clean collection - a number of the volumes are out-of-print and it is difficult to find as a set. A large and heavy set - shipping to all destinations at cost. Feel free to inquire in advance. Item #67842
