"The Keys to the Gateway of Magic" is the second volume of the Golden Hoard Press's important Sourceworks of Ceremonial Magic series. It was first published in 2005 and reprinted in 2011, 2003 & 2016. Unlike the later volumes in the series, Golden Hoard did not initially issue a deluxe version of the work. A few years later they decided to rectify this by adding a new limitation page to 150 sets of sheets which remained from their 2016 edition, and sending them to be hand-bound, to create a deluxe edition to match the other volumes. Unfortunately all but 36 of the sets of sheets were misdelivered, and then destroyed. The surviving 36 sets of sheets were eventually bound and returned to the publisher, with Stephen Skinner hand-altering the limitation statement in each of the volumes. Initially it was thought that only 34 sets of sheets had survived, so some copies (not necessarily in numerical sequence) have the hand-written limitation statement reading this is "No, [individual copy number] of 34." Other copies read "No, [individual copy number] of 36." This particular copy is one of those with the number given as "36." The book itself is effectively a companion volume, to Skinner and Rankine's excellent "Practical Angel Magic". From the publisher: "This work includes the complete unabridged version with variants of The Nine Great Keys, a vital early 17th century manuscript detailing the invocation of the Archangels and nine Orders of Angels. The full practical techniques of summoning the Archangels, details of the hierarchies of spiritual beings, and how the full Enochian system fits in with the Angelic and Demonic hierarchies are all covered ......." The various vicissitudes and delays meant that copies sat for some time in humid conditions in the tropics, and as a consequence the copies show a few tiny, almost imperceptible, spots of foxing to the edges.
