London: Williams and Norgate, Ltd., 1941. Ninth Edition. Hardcover. Quarto. xxviii + 568pp. Black cloth with gilt title, etc. to spine, well illustrated with b&w illustrations, charts, diagrams - many of them two page spreads & fold-outs. Includes preface to seventh edition by Davidson. One of the key works of pyramidology. The principal author, David Davidson (1884–1956) was a Scottish structural engineer who started out as a skeptic and agnostic, seeking to disprove Charles Piazzi Smyth's arguments connecting the measurements of the Great Pyramid of Giza with Biblocal prophecy. Instead Davidson felt that he was able to reconcile the measurements taken by Piazzi Smyth with those made by the renowned Egyptologist Sir Flinders Petrie, publishing the results in "The Great Pyramid: Its Divine Message" (first edition: 1924). Davidson's contribution to the work largely concerned the mathematics and measurements of the edifice, his co-author Dr. Herbert Aldersmith, a Christian convert and British Israelite, laid forth the prophecies that they believed were preserved in the Great Pyramid. The work underwent numerous revisions, and this ninth edition includes the lengthy new (1937) preface to the seventh edition and a note explaining that some of the circumstances described should not be interpreted as meaning that there would be no war (in the interim the Second World War had begun). Light overall shelf wear, spine ends- edges and corners have a few bumps and bruises, page edges darkened and foxed, heavy book is a bit shaken with splits to endpaper gutters and corresponding slight loosening of hinges, page edges darkened. Still a clean and unmarked about VG copy in VG example of scarce dust jacket (Dust jacket lightly shelf worn, spine darkened, publisher's price on spine altered partially obscured by a later price label, some chipping and minor rubbing to the folds. Now in protective mylar cover). A large heavy book that will require additional shipping to all destinations. Item #67932
