Original red cloth with gilt title to black spine label, frontis, b&w illustrations, index. As far as we can determine this is the first printing of University Books edition of the first of Summers' two studies of the lore and practice of Vampirism, which includes a new Preface by Felix Morrow entitled "The Quest for Montague Summers". Chapters: The Origins of the Vampire; The Generation of the Vampire; The Traits and Practice of Vampirism; The Vampire in Assyria, The East, and some Ancient Countries; The Vampire in Literature; Bibliography; Index. Cloth lightly rubbed and faded at extremities (common with this edition), page edges a little darkened, unmarked. Small black felt-tip line on front pastedown (presumably obscuring owner's name). Tiny tear at inner margin of title-page. Overall a solid & clean VG+ copy in near G only dust jacket. (Dust jacket rubbed and with creases, chips and small tears at edges, price-clipped.
