Large octavo. xiv + 514pp. Navy blue cloth wit gilt title and borders to spine and front cover, general index, index of quotes, terms of the Vedânta. First published in German in 1883 as "Das System des Vedânta", an English language edtion of this comprehensive study of Vedanta by Paul Deussen (1845-1919) a Sanskrit scholar also known as Deva-Sena. Deussen was a Professor of Philosophy, a follower of Arthur Schopenhauer, and a friend of Friedrich Nietzsche and Swami Vivekananda. A bit of light shelf wear, corners and spine ends lightly bruised and chafed, page edges browned, endpapers split at inner hinges with some very slight loosening of hinge but still holding well, front blank removed, pages lightly toned but internally bright and unmarked. Overall a bright VG copy of this scarce early edition. Item #67965
