Item #68138 The Art of Rosaleen Norton. Rosaleen NORTON, Gavin GREENLEES, Nevill Drury.

The Art of Rosaleen Norton.

Sydney, Australia: Walter Glover, 1982. Second Edition, Expanded. Hardcover. Quarto. 80pp. Blue textured papered boards lettered in gilt on spine & front board. Color & b/w illustrations. Edition limited to 1000 copies. A book of occult-inspired artist Rosaleen Norton's drawings, with poems by Norton and her lover Gavin Greenlees. The original 1952 edition was banned in the USA on the grounds of obscenity, and had a restricted circulation in Australia, with a court ruling that some of the plates had to be 'blacked out' before copies could legally be sold. The original publisher, Walter Glover, brought out this second edition in 1982. While it is arguably not as true to the original as the 2013 Teitan Press edition, this 1982 edition is historically important and includes a new Introduction by Nevill Drury and colour reproductions of four artworks by Norton that were not included in either the first or the Teitan Press editions. Glover only printed 1000 copies of this edition, and he intended to number them with a small limitation sticker which he placed on the verso of the title-page, however he soon gave up on the project, and this copy, like the great majority that he distributed, is without sticker or number. Original doubled sided quarto publisher's prospectus loosely inserted. A touch of light shelf-wear, but otherwise a tight, clean near-Fine copy in near-Fine dust jacket. Uncommon in such nice condition. Item #68138
