A Magick Life. A Biography of Aleister Crowley.

London: Hodder and Stoughton, 2000. First Edition. Hardcover. Large octavo. xvi + 508pp. + XVI pages b&w photos. Black cloth with gilt title, etc. to spine, b&w photos, index. Although this biography of Crowley is not one of the better known studies, it is certainly not without merit. The author, Martin Booth (1944 – 2004), was a publisher, poet and novelist, who was short-listed for the 1998 Booker Prize. He had a long-term interest in Crowley, and edited the first mainstream modern selection of Aleister Crowley's poetry to appear in print. This copy from the library of Crowley scholar, Martin P. Starr with his "Meithras" blind seal on the half-title page ("Meithras" was the magical name adopted by Starr in his youth, and although he had a blind seal made that bore it he very seldom used it on his books) and one of his personalised "post it notes", with his name printed on it, loosely inserted for use as a book mark. Starr, is of course well known as the author of "The Unknown God", an essayist, editor of Crowley texts, and co-founder of the Teitan Press. A hint of shelf-wear, corners and spine ends bruised. Still overall a tight, clean VG+ copy in VG+ dust jacket. (Dust jacket lightly shelf-worn, not clipped. Now in removable mylar sleeve). Item #68175
