The Books of the Beast. Essays on Aleister Crowley, Montague Summers, Francis Barrett and others.

London: Crucible, 1987. First Edition. Softcover. Large octavo. 128pp, b&w illustrations and frontispiece. Notes and index. The first edition of this delightful collection of bibliographically orientated essays. The book is worth having for the essay on Crowley alone, but each of the others is similarly entertaining and instructive, and the author's little autobiographical Epilogue an absolute treasure. This copy from the library of Martin P. Starr: the author of "The Unknown God", essayist, editor of Crowley texts, and co-founder of the Teitan Press. With Starr's ownership signature on the half-title page and one of his personalised "post it notes", with his name printed on it, loosely inserted for use as a book mark. Very light shelf wear, small bookshop label at bottom of half-title page, price sticker on rear cover, pages lightly toned - otherwise a tight, unmarked VG+ copy. Item #68176
