NP, (ca. 1967). Traveller's Edition. Hardcover, Three volumes in one, each with separate title page. Vol. I: x + 270pp, Vol, II: viii (+ 2) + 282pp, Vol: III viii + 248pp. An extraordinary bound photocopy/copy or micro-film print out, bound in thick blue cloth with gilt titling to the spine. In the early 1960s Roger Carey Staples (b. 1935) started a PhD in English literature at the University of Michgan (Ann Arbor) focussing on the literary work of Aleister Crowley. In the course of his doctoral research he went to the University of Texas and annotated a copy of Crowley's "Collected Works" against the manuscripts, typescripts and separately published works there. In addition to annotating or marking almost every page, he also interleaved a number of blanks throughout the work, onto which he wrote the copied longer ommitted passages, annotations by Crowley, etc. etc. As far as we can determine this is either an offprint from a microfilm, or a xerox copy, of Staples's heavily annotated copy of "The Collected Works." It has been quite carefully trimmed and professionally bound (although some annotations were cropped in the binding process), presumably at some considerable expense. It seems more than likely that it is a unique copy of the original. On the second blank it has the year (1967) and the handwritten ownership name (twice), and address of John Michael Erlewine (b. 1941) the musician (most notably as co-founder of the band the Prime Movers), writer, photographer, and astrologer who most likely commissioned the copy. More recently it is from the library of Aleister Crowley scholar Martin P. Starr - author of "The Unknown God", editor of Crowley texts, and co-founder of the Teitan Press - with a personalised "post it note" with his printed name on it inserted for use as a book mark. The book itself has simple xerox type production, the binding is solid. VG+ condition. Item #68201
