The I Ching: A New Translation of the Book of Changes by the Master Therion. The Equinox Vol. III, No. 7.

Boulder CO: O.T.O. / Privately printed by Selene Camp, ND (1987 ). First Edition Thus. Softcover. Octavo (7 1/4 x 5 1/4 inches). Not paginated (82 pp.) Yellow paper spine over off-white paper wrappers with black lettering & Chinese characters to upper cover, b&w illustrations. Inside front cover comprises a reproduction of Crowley's "Liber Oz", inside back cover a reprint of a 1912 "Equinox" advertisement for the O.T.O. Ironically - considering the important role the I Ching (Yi King) played in Crowley's life - this little work on the subject was not published until 1968, when a tiny edition of it was produced by the Solar Lodge. In 1971 Helen Parson Smith produced a version under the title "Shih Yi", and thereafter a number of different editions appeared, including one by Brock Printing Services (associated with the Level Press) in 1973. This present edition was published by the Selene Camp of the O.T.O. of Boulder Colorado in 1987 and is clearly based on the Brock edition, although with changes of imprint etc. The time etc. of publication are filled in by hand on the verso of the title-page, where there is also a presentation inscription that appears to have been written by someone associated with the publication. From the collection of Clive Harper with his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. A well- used copy. A hand-coloured print of the banner-head of "The Equinox" tipped in at the front blank. Inked astrological symbols on title-page. Covers rubbed, darkened and discoloured, fore-edge darkened and thumbed. Pages toned but unmarked. Overall a complete Good-only copy of an unusual edition that has obviously seen service.
