Item #68264 Household Gods. A Comedy. Aleister CROWLEY.
Household Gods. A Comedy.

Household Gods. A Comedy.

Pallanza: NP, 1912. First edition. Hardcover. Small Octavo. 44 pp. Original white buckram with gilt title to cover and spine. Top edge gilt. A play dedicated to Leila Waddell. Crowley wrote that the work "is a sort of magical allegory, full of subtle ironies and mystifications; almost the only thing of its kind I have ever done - which perhaps accounts for my having a sneaking affection for it." Crowley gave the place of publication as Pallanza, in northern Italy, but this was simply in homage to the pretty lakeside town where he wrote it. From the collection of Clive Harper with his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. White cloth a little darkened and grubby (as common), faint red mark at middle of rear board, and spine ends bumped, endpapers unevenly darkened and lightly foxed, pages lightly browned - otherwise a tight, clean VG+ copy of one of the scarcer early Crowley editions. Includes custom cut mylar cover. Item #68264
