The Book of Thoth. A Short Essay on the Tarot of the Egyptians. Being The Equinox Volume III No. V.

New York, NY: Samuel Weiser Inc., 1969. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. Small Quarto, xii + 288pp. The scarce pink cloth first issue of the first Weiser printing (bound in bright PINK boards whereas most were blue cloth) with gilt title, etc. to spine. Includes color frontispiece which was omitted from some later printings, color plates. Crowley's masterwork on the tarot, with color and black and white reproductions of the card designs by Frieda Harris. This edition is hard to find in any condition. From the collection of Clive Harper with his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. Cloth is lightly and unevenly faded - more so at spine and outer edges, spine ends bruised, page edges darkened with some mottling to upper edge, NYC Weiser bookshop label on front pastedown, pages lightly toned but otherwise unmarked and clean. Overall a tight, unmarked VG- copy of this scarce edition in Poor dust jacket. (Dust jacket heavily worn with considerable chipping and loss to edges, extremities and spine. Damp stain to rear panel, neat horizontal cut on front panel from inner flap to spine, price clipped. Now in mylar - which is effectively holding it together). Item #68272
