Item #68276 The Fish [ Proof copy ]. Lawrence Sutin., Anthony Naylor.

The Fish [ Proof copy ].

Thame, England: Mandrake Press Ltd., [1990]. Proof Copy. Softcover. Quarto. Approximately 95 A4 sheets, clip bound with clear mylar cover sheet over white title page lettered in black. First "Proof copy" of this work published in 1992 by Mandrake Press and described at that time as: "a novel commenced by Aleister Crowley at a particularly turbulent period in his already tumultuous life, and it is hardly surprising that the book was never completed." Tipped onto the first blank is a "post it" note from the editor, Anthony Naylor to Clive Harper, asking for assistance in deciphering a page in Crowley's handwriting that gives a synopsis of the final unfinished chapters (a facsimile of the page in question is bound in at the rear). Loosely inserted is a quarto sheet, with Harper's transcription of it. This proof copy is from the collection of Clive Harper with his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. Cheap "proof-type" production values. A bit of light wear but overall a tight, clean VG+ copy of this piece of Crowley / Mandrake Press Ltd. history. Item #68276
