Tao Te Ching, Liber CLVII. The Equinox. Volume Three Number Eight.

Tao Te Ching, Liber CLVII. The Equinox. Volume Three Number Eight.

Asheville and Stockholm: 93 Publishing, 1995. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. Octavo. xvi + 112 pp. Custom bound in purple leatherette, gilt titling and rules to spine. References and index. Genuinely scarce - a rare example of the 93 Publishing edition of the book that was never officially released. In 1995 93 Publishing and Samuel Weiser co-published "The Equinox. Volume Three Number Eight" comprising the texts of Crowley's editions of the "Tao Te Ching" ("Liber CLVII") and the "Khing Kang King" ("Liber XXI") with an Introduction by Hymenaeus Beta, with the idea that Weiser would produce the softcover and 93 Publishing the hardcover editions. Weiser published the softcover as planned, but circumstances arose which dictated that while the sheets for the 93 Publishing edition - with its unique title-page - were printed, they were never bound or distributed. The editor, Hymenaus, did give away a few sets of unbound sheets, one of which he gave to the (then) Lodge Master of Syntaxiss Lodge of the O.T.O., Jeff Clark, who had them bound up, thus. The volume was later acquired by Clive Harper, from whose collection it comes, with his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. A hint of shelf-wear to the binding, and one or two very faint age spots to the first and last pages. Still near Fine condition. Obviously unique. Item #68280
