Alceister Crowley [ Carte blanche Spirou à Cossu 10 ].

Marcinelle-Charleroi / Paris / Montreal / Bruxelles / Sittard: S. A. Editions Jean Dupuis, 1985. First Edition. Hardcover. Quarto.(12 x 8.5 inches). 48pp. Illustrated papered boards, b&w illustrated endpapers, color illustrated bande dessinée (BD - Franco-Belgian comic). TEXT IN FRENCH. Gift inscription from John Symonds to Anthony Naylor opposite title page: "To Anthony Naylor with christmas 1991 good wishes, from John Symonds." Symonds was of course Aleister Crowley's most famous early biographer, and had been appointed by Crowley as one of his literary executors. For a time in the late 1980s and 1990s he and Anthony Naylor of The Mandrake Press Ltd. co-operated on a number of projects, including, most famously "O.T.O. Rituals and Sex Magick." The central character of the comic "Alceister Crowley" is an antique dealer whose quest for the strange and unusual leads him into a series of bizarre adventures. Aside from the similarity of name, he doesn't seem to have much in common with "the Great Beast." The volume is most recently from the collection of Clive Harper, with his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. Light wear, a bit of adhesive residue on bar code/rear cover. Internally clean. Overall a tight, unmarked VG+ with an interesting provenance. Item #68289
