Secret Rituals of the O.T.O. [ OTO ].

New York: Samuel Weiser, Inc., 1973. First US Edition. 1/4 cloth. Hardcover, Octavo. 240pp. Original navy cloth with gold title etc to spine, b&w frontis portrait of Aleister Crowley, dust jacket design by Eve Bloomfield adapted from the Universe card designed by Aleister Crowley and painted by Frieda Harris. The first American edition of controversial publication of the "secret rituals" of the Ordo Templi Orientis, of which Aleister Crowley was one-time head. Edited and introduced by Francis King. The book is in 3 parts: Part 1: "The Birth and Development of the O.T.O.", Part 2: "The Rituals Themselves", Part 3: "The Secret Instructions of the Seventh, Eighth & Ninth Degrees". Four pages of related photocopies loosely inserted: a two page typescript headed "Corrections to King's Rip-Off of O.T.O. Documents" which comprises a list of approximately 30 corrections to the text of the book that were made by comparing it to the original documents in the Yorke collection - apparently by a member of the S.O.T.O. in the 1970s. Also a two page photocopied "Appendix 2 an addition by Loki 1996" which presents further commentary and corrections to the text. From the collection of Clive Harper with his discreet book-label neatly tipped in at the rear. Harper is well- known as the bibliographer of Austin Osman Spare, for updating the Aleister Crowley bibliography in the 2011 Teitan Press collection of Gerald Yorke's writings, and as someone who has lent his expertise to numerous other publications. A bright, fresh copy.
