The Tree of Life. A Study in Magic.
New York, NY: Samuel Weiser Inc., 1969. First US Edition. Hardcover. Large octavo. 286pp. Original blue cloth with gilt title, etc. to spine and front cover, frontis, illustrations, color plates. The First US edition of Regardie's comprehensive exposition of magic which was originally published in the UK in 1932. This copy from the library of British artist, writer and musician DAVID TIBET (founder of the music group Current 93) with his OWNERSHIP SIGNATURE on the first blank. Regardie's "The Tree of Life" draws heavily from the Golden Dawn (and other) material published in Crowley's "Equinox" series. Regardie's references to the Golden Dawn in the 1932 edition sparked much debate in the Order's survivals - the Alpha et Omega and Stella Matutina - and ultimately led to him being invited to join the latter Order. This first US edition includes a new introduction by Regardie that was especially written for it. Cloth lightly rubbed overall, light bumping and chafing to corners and spine ends, page edges a bit darkened, light brown flecking to front endpapers at inner margin, light abrasion (from erasure?) to upper front blank, Llewellyn Distributor's ink stamp to lower edge of title page, pages toned but clean and unmarked. Overall a tight, clean VG copy in Good dust jacket (Dust jacket is darkened and discoloured overall - more so at spine, all edges a bit ragged, chafed and chipped at the edges- more so at spine ends, corners and folds, not clipped. Now protected in removable mylar cover). Item #68360
