B&w frontis, black & white and colour illustrations: 46 photos on 28 page photographic paper insert. Edition limited to 500 numbered copies, with the limitation number in pencil on the title-page. This copy is SIGNED on the title page by contributor David Tibet with both his given and magickal names and is a duplicate from his collection. David Tibet is a British artist, writer and musician who founded the music group Current 93. He is a resident of Hastings - where Netherwood stood - and has a long-term interest in Crowley. In addition to writing the Foreword, he also supplied some of the images etc. used in the book. This is the second revised edition of this fascinating study of Netherwood, the guest-house in which ts most famous resident, Aleister Crowley, spent his final years. In addition to a background history of the building, the book includes a lengthy chapter on each of the years that Crowley spent there, exploring the daily life of the Beast in his final years, and his interactions with other guests and those who visited him, including Kenneth Grant, David Curwen, John Symonds and others. The author, Antony Clayton, lives in Hastings and is an established writer whose previous books include "Subterranean City: Beneath the Streets of London," "The Folklore of London," and "Decadent London." The book opens with a Foreword by Hastings resident, musician and Crowley aficionado David Tibet, and has additional essays "The Mark of the Beast" by occult researcher, musician and author Gary Lachman and "Conjuror with Belief: Aossic in the Atom Age," by Andy Sharp writing as "The English Heretic," the collaborative occult/musical/experiential project in which he features. Generously illustrated with many seldom-seen photographs of Netherwood, Crowley and friends; as well as colour photographs of some of Crowley's artwork that probably once graced the walls of the building. The book is accompanied by facsimiles of three pieces of Netherwood-related ephemera, with a small computer printed description, held in a loosely inserted in glassine envelope. The facsimiles comprise: a reproduction of a Netherwood guesthouse brochure circa 1939/1940; a reproduction of a Netherwood guesthouse brochure circa mid-1960s; and a reproduction of an undated postcard with a pen-and ink view of the south front of Netherwood. No dust jacket issued but includes the printed "wrap around" paper band which quotes an Amazon review on the front: 'Do not buy this book, nothing good will come from reading it" - and includes a brief description of the contents of the volume on the reverse.
