Meetings with Remarkable Men.

London: Routledge & Kegan Paul, 1963. First UK Edition. Hardcover. Octavo. xii + 304pp. Blue cloth with gilt title, etc. to spine, frontisportrait of Gurdjieff. The first UK edition of this collection of reminiscences of nine "remarkable men" encountered by the Greek-Armenian spiritual teacher G. I. Gurdjieff during his life-time. Although complete in itself, it is regarded as the second volume of his "All and Everything trilogy." Gurdjieff began working on the Russian manuscript in 1927, revising and expanding it a number of times. His friend and translator A. R. Orage prepared an English translation in the 1930s, but it remained unpublished until it served as the basis for this edition. This copy from the library of British artist, writer and musician DAVID TIBET (founder of the music group Current 93) with his OWNERSHIP SIGNATURE on the verso of the half title page. Very light general shelf wear, upper board very slightly bowed, page edges a bit darkened and foxed, and faint musty odour. Still overall a tight, unmarked VG+ copy in VG dust jacket. Dust jacket spine somewhat faded, a little light shelf-wear, short snag/tear (quarter inch) in front panel right next to the fold where it becomes the front flap. A little light creasing at edges, not clipped. Now in removable mylar cover. Item #68433
